DCSB Children & Adolescent Services
Accessment and Treatment DeKalb Community Service Board offers many services for Children and Adolescents. Each outpatient clinic is able to access and treat this population. For information on the location of the outpatient clinic nearest you, click on Treatment Centers button.
Hospitalization
When necessary, Peachford Hospital provides hospitalization for children aged 10 and under, paid for by the DCSB. Those aged 11 up to 17 are sent to Georgia Regional Hospital. Parents can also send their children to Riverwood or Summit Ridge.
Glenfair Child and Adolescent Treatment Program This is an after school and summer program for children with serious behavioral, emotional or family oriented problems. Children are usually in treatment every day for six to nine months.
Adolescent Treatment Programs A “Systems of Care” partnership between the DeKalb School Board, the DeKalb Juvenile Justice System, the Department of Family and Children Services (DFAC), and the DCSB have imbedded staff to coordinate between agencies to deal with problems as they occur. For example, a clinician is posted permanently at the Juvenile Court.
Kirkwood Center Day Treatment is a six day a week program for adolescents with substance abuse.
DeKalb Drug Court Treatment is a three day a week program for adolescents with substance abuse. The Court gives more intense oversight to recent offenders.
Crisis Center for Children and Adolescents The Atlanta Housing Authority has provided land in DeKalb County for the construction of a Crisis Center for Children and a separate unit for Adolescents. Each unit will have 16 beds. This construction was scheduled to be completed by now, but technical glitches have forced architectural changes and increased costs. When complete, children and adolescents will no longer have to go to a psychiatric hospital to receive intensive treatment.
Family Advisory Council The Family Advisory Council was established so the DCSB and parents of troubled children and adolescents can plan together to improve service and develop programs that families want.
